A Calm, Beautiful Celebration

There are some weddings that stay with you, quietly, deeply, and in the most beautiful way. Leslie and Edwin’s wedding was one of those days. Leslie and I go way back, we’ve known each other since middle school and we’ve had the chance to collaborate on so many different projects over the years. She’s not just a talented bridal makeup artist; she’s also one of the kindest, most genuine people I know. So when she asked me to capture her wedding day, it was truly an honor! The day began in the comfort of her home, where everything felt beyond peaceful and still. It was an intimate celebration, Leslie and Edwin planned to exchange vows at their local courthouse and then return home to celebrate with family. There was this quiet energy in the air, so peaceful and the kind that feels like something pivotal was unfolding!

Walking into her home, I was met with so much grace, and warmth beyond the Spanish hospitality I’m accustomed to, and thoughtfully placed wedding details she had set aside for me to capture! What made this morning especially meaningful was watching her do her own makeup, a full-circle moment honestly. She’s spent countless hours getting other brides ready for their big day, and now it was her turn. There was something so poetic about watching her, knowing it was for one of the most important days of her life. I was able to also see her do her mom’s makeup and her niece’s, and it was so special to witness. These moments weren’t rushed or over planned and they’re the kind I live for! Moments that are just slow, intentional, and full of love. Throughout her getting ready process, I got to step in and help her here and there, things that might seem small but feel so valuable in those in-between moments. That’s something I’ve grown to appreciate so deeply as a wedding photographer not just capturing moments, but being someone couples can lean on during their day.

One of my favorite memories from the day was when we pulled together a little first look moment on the spot. Leslie was just finishing up upstairs, and Edwin was already dressed and waiting. I asked if she wanted him to be at the bottom of the stairs to see her come down and she lit up and said “Yes!". It wasn’t something we planned ahead of time, but it felt right. When he saw her for the first time, the look on his face was pure love and joy . You could feel the love between them, and I’m so glad I was there to freeze that moment! Shortly after that, we made our way to the courthouse. The weather that day had predicted light rain all day, but somehow, as if God was working on our side knowing how special this was, the skies cleared just in time for their ceremony. The mist lifted, and everything felt just how it was meant to be. Their ceremony was simple, heartfelt, and full of love with their closest family and friends right at their side.

Being part of Leslie and Edwin’s day was more than just documenting another love story. It was witnessing a chapter begin for someone I’ve seen grow over the years, from friend to artist to bride. I would relive that day in a heartbeat. Actually, maybe I wouldn’t because I couldn’t change a thing, it was perfect just as it was. Leslie and Edwin, thank you for letting me walk alongside you through such a intimate and personal moment in your lives. It was truly a gift.
